What the heck is up?

What in the heck is up??
Hi everyone, I’m writing this as a long overdue resource for what the heck is up with Entropy (the yoga studio 😀) Here are some updates, a (very rough) timeline, an idea of what the offering will be for Ashtanga Yoga, a little about our artist space, and where we are.
Entropy Yoga is a space for everyone to come and learn and grow together. Ok yes that is a very generic phrase and we all feel that maybe it can be said a bit too often for things that… well are just not that. When Kaleigh expressed a need to move on and a willingness to pass on the Ashtanga Yoga program that she brought back into Milwaukee I was so excited that I had a space that could keep it going. As I sat with it more and more I found there was something that kept coming into my mind that caused me to pause and question myself. The student to teacher relationship, what it means to be a teacher, and how I felt I could create an environment around Ashtanga Yoga that was positive and create fertile soil for people to grow. Without going into details I want to acknowledge everything that has happened during the history of Ashtanga Yoga and how teachers have caused pain through the abuse of their position of “authority”, taking advantage of people looking up to them for guidance and support. (If you do not know what I am talking about and would like to know more please ask)
So to return to Entropy Yoga as a space for EVERYONE to come and learn and grow together my intention is to be a person of support and not of authority. My goal is to work with each person individually to see where you are and where you want to go. What are your goals? Knowing you will help empower me to become someone who can help and give assists and advice where it is needed. I do not decide what posture you go to but will discuss how I feel you can experience the practice safely. Even if a posture may seem risky it will always be a discussion of how maybe the posture can be modified, use props, or even skip for now. Now you might be thinking this is not the way! If that is you and you want to follow a more traditional path that is safe and effective for some body types then lets do it! The biggest thing is that Ashtanga is such a personal practice and everyone is so wildly different that I want to empower everyone to be stronger physically and within, you are your own teacher!
We will be offering Mysore style Ashtanga Yoga Mon to Friday from 6:30 to 9:30. The doors will close at 8, which means no one will be able to come in and begin their practice after 8am but those who are there will have the space to finish their practice until 9:30. More on memberships and sign ups to come in the future!
A bit about our space. We are located at 1029 West Historic Mitchell Street and we are not just a place to practice yoga. The space is a art coop, place for yoga, and art gallery. The artists who work in the space, the yogis who do their practice, those who join for galleries and everyone else that comes through the door is a part of our community and is sharing their energy with the space. This shared space is made to encourage community, support, and growth through in person interaction. We are so excited to share this space with everyone and are eager to get the space filled with good energy and love. (Embrace the cliche’s people!)
What is the timeline? When will you be open? What is going on? Well…. The space needs a change of occupancy permit and we are currently working with an architect to get the building plans to the city, then inspections, once we have occupancy we will begin offering classes!
